The Union Ministry has approved Rs 419.47 crore for the construction of flyovers and underpasses. This amount will be spent especially at those places where accident-prone ‘black spots’ have been identified. In the first phase, survey of about 70 km area is being done by a private company. Based on the survey, a detailed project report will be prepared, after which the timeline of construction and phased implementation will be clear.
Many cut points and uncontrolled crossings on the highway were causing accidents for a long time. Demand for flyovers and underpasses has been raised by local people and public representatives at various places including Bilaspur Cut.
Under the project:
- Six lane flyover on Wahalna bypass of Muzaffarnagar bypass
- Six lane flyover on Sandhavali Cut
- Vehicle underpass at accident prone places
- Development of service roads
These works will not only reduce the traffic pressure on the main highways, but will also provide safe transportation option to the rural and local population.
