10 lakh rupees insurance for just 45 paise
According to the CNBC report, passengers who book tickets from IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) website or mobile app get an insurance cover of up to Rs 10 lakh on a premium only 45 paise under optional travel insurance scheme (OTIS). This scheme is being run in partnership with Indian Railways and many insurance companies.
Who can take this facility?
This insurance is available only to those passengers who have confirmed or RAC tickets and who book tickets online through IRCTC. Tickets or waiting ticket holders purchased from the railway station counter do not get this benefit. Also, children under 5 years of age and foreign tourists (who book tickets from the international website) are also not eligible for this scheme.
How to get insurance cover?
During online ticket booking, the passenger has to choose the option of insurance. On ticking, a premium of 45 paise is connected with a ticket. After the ticket is booked, the insurance company sends policy and nominee update links through email or SMS. It is necessary to update the details of the nominee for the claim.
