An employee’s post went viral in which he said that the manager interrupted him when he was leaving at 5:10 pm after the end of his shift. There was a culture of staying late in the office even after finishing work. The employee described this as the worst work culture of his career.
Viral News: There are all types of people in the office. Some people finish their work quickly and relax a bit, while there are some who remain busy on their laptop even after the office timings are over. In many companies, despite having shifts of 8 or 9 hours, employees work till late hours. In such a situation, most of the managers do not like the employees who wake up at 5 o’clock exactly as the school bell rings and go home. Still, those whose work is over are not afraid to leave. In one such case, an employee told on social media that when he left the office at 5:10 after finishing his shift at 5 pm, the manager stopped him on the way. This post of his has now gone viral on social media and there is a lot of debate on it.
The employee told that he used to work in a company where no one would dare to go home before 5 o’clock. He was an account manager in a company that made and designed bakery shops. The official working time was from 8:30 am to 5 pm, but he reached office by 8:15 am every day.
The employee said that in the first week of his new job, he used to leave the office around 5:05 or 5:10 pm. A few days later, his manager stopped him and questioned him about his departure time. The manager said, “You can’t leave so quickly.” When the employee asked why, the manager said, “You’re leaving too early, everyone is talking about it.” To this the employee replied that he comes 15 minutes before the start of work. But the manager refused to believe this and said, “No one sees you coming early.”
After this, the employee started paying more attention to his colleagues to understand the office environment. He noticed that most of the people remained in the office till 5:20 or 5:25 in the evening. This was not because they had work left, but because no one wanted to be the first to come out and catch the boss’s attention.
The employee wrote, “I’m talking about a company of about 75 employees, and all these employees were holding each other hostage to not leave earlier. I left that company 8 years ago. But it was the worst work culture of my career. I always tell people this as a bad example. It was sheer madness.”
This post went viral on social media within no time. Many people shared their experiences of such pressure at the workplace. One user commented, “I used to work at a company that had 8-5 or 9-6 shifts, but they wanted you to be at your desk 16 minutes before the shift started. If you were even a minute late, you had to work an extra hour to make up. That means if you came in at 8:01, you had to stay until 6pm. The same rule was for lunch.”
Another user wrote, “Where I used to work, some employees used to leave early. When pressure was put on them, they told that the salary in the first job was not enough, so they had to leave for their second job.” Another user described it as “a nightmare” and added, “It reminds me of a time I fell into a similar trap. I’m glad I left that job.”
