Lucas Bergvall, a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, has extended his contract with the club until 2031. This new agreement comes less than a year after he joined from Djurgarden in Sweden’s Allsvenskan league.
Spurs secured his transfer for £8.5 million in February 2024, although he officially joined the team in July.
Bergvall quickly became integral to Ange Postecoglou’s plans, featuring in 45 matches across all competitions during his debut season. Only four players have played more games for Spurs this season: Pape Sarr with 49 appearances, and Pedro Porro, Brennan Johnson, and Dejan Kulusevski each with 46.
Despite starting on the bench for 21 of those games, Bergvall has made significant contributions. He recently became a regular starter in midfield and scored his first goal for the club during a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-finals’ first leg in January.
Although Tottenham was eliminated from the EFL Cup following a 4-0 defeat in the second leg, they remain contenders for silverware in the Europa League. Their upcoming semi-final opponents are Bodo/Glimt.
Before their Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday, Spurs announced Bergvall’s contract extension. Initially signed until 2029 upon his arrival, this new deal reflects his growing importance to the team.
