Tomb Raider Series Starring Sophie Turner Violated Safety Laws In UK During Filming

After its star, Sophie Turner, was injured earlier this year, Tomb Raider has faced yet another snag during filming. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, the television show was pulled up by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK for violating safety laws. A new report reveals how the production endangered the health of the crew. The series was issued an “improvement notice” in April 2026 and has since complied with the local laws. Created by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the series sees Turner take on the iconic role of Lara Croft.

According to a report in Deadline, the HSE revealed that Tomb Raider had breached the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974 and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002. The report stated that Project Temple Productions Ltd did not ensure that crew members go through “biological monitoring” to avoid any after effects for the spraying of isocyanate paints. The use of the paint frequently causes asthma. The crew also did not have appropriate personal protective equipment to wear when spraying the paint. The production also did not factor in the clearance time the isocyanate paint’s mist leaves after its usage.

The production was hit with an “improvement notice” in April 2026 and they complied with the relevant regulations within a month. The HSE usually does not issue notices to television sets and this was a rare case in which they intervened. The series was filmed at Shinfield Studios during the first half of the year; filming began in the UK from January 2026. Production was paused for two weeks as star Turner healed from a . The production did not reveal if Turner was injured during the filming of the series.

Besides the Game of Thrones star, also stars Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein as part of its ensemble cast. Emmy winner Waller-Bridge is also a writer, executive producer and co-showrunner with Chad Hodge. The series is directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken and expected to release in 2027 on the streaming platform.

The series is based on the hit video game which was first released in 1996. Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander have previously played the character of Lara Croft in the past.
