These days, there are rumors of gas shortage in some parts of the country, and cyber criminals have now started taking advantage of this restlessness. Recently Delhi Police has issued a very serious alert. If you have received a message or call on your phone in the name of a gas agency asking you to book a cylinder immediately, then wait. A little haste on your part can wipe out your lifetime’s hard-earned money in a moment.
Understand the ‘plan’ of the thugs
Nowadays, cyber fraudsters are making people their victims in a very clever way. In this tense environment created between the supply and demand of LPG cylinders, the thugs have caught the pulse of the general public. They are posing as representatives of the gas agency and calling people or sending attractive messages on their mobiles and WhatsApp. In these messages, tempting words like “emergency delivery” or “fast booking” are used. Actually, this is not a facility, but a dangerous trap of digital theft, through which they want to access your bank accounts.
Don’t be in a hurry
The main basis of this entire fraud is the fear created within the human being. The fraudsters very cleverly claim over the phone that if you do not register immediately by clicking on the link sent by them, your existing gas booking will be cancelled. Many times, mental pressure is also created by saying that the cylinder will not be available. As soon as a common citizen, in a hurry, clicks on the fake link sent by them or downloads an unknown APK file, a secret malware gets installed in his phone. After this, extremely sensitive information like banking details, passwords and OTPs directly reach the criminals and in the blink of an eye, money is lost from the account.

In the digital world, caution is the biggest guarantee of security. Delhi Police has shared some clear and very important guidelines to deal with this new threat. The first rule is to completely avoid clicking on any unknown link. Always book your LPG through the official website of the concerned company or their verified mobile app. Never share your bank account number, OTP or UPI PIN with anyone over the phone. Do not blindly trust any dubious “early booking” offers you see on social media; First investigate it completely.
Despite this, if any cyber fraud happens to you, then instead of panic take immediate action. Call the national cyber crime helpline number 1930 without any delay or register your complaint on the government’s official portal cybercrime.gov.in. Steps taken in time can compensate for your loss. Be cautious and trust information only from official sources.
