New Delhi: Team India will take on England in the third Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Lord’s in London on Thursday, July 10. The hosts won the opening encounter of the series by 5 wickets, but the Men in Blue made a stunning comeback in Birmingham and won the second Test by 336 runs to level the series at 1-1.
Shubman Gill became the youngest Indian captain to win a Test overseas; the previous youngest captain was Sunil Gavaskar, who won against NZ in Auckland in 1976. Gill aggregated 430 runs across innings of the Edgbaston Test and broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record (344) of the highest match aggregate by an Indian in a Test. He also became the second Indian to score a double hundred and a hundred in the same Test after Gavaskar.
What happened when India and England last met at Lord’s?
Team India’s last Test match at the Lord’s was during the 2021 Pataudi Trophy (currently known as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy). The opening Test of the series at Trent Bridge ended in a draw, but the Men in Blue made a brilliant comeback and won the second Test at Lord’s by 151 runs.
KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were brilliant in the first innings in tough batting conditions and stitched a 1026-run partnership for the opening wicket. Rahul scored 129 runs off 250 balls, while Rohit amassed 83 runs off 145 balls. Kohli also scored 42 runs but looked scratchy. James Anderson picked up five wickets while Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood took two wickets each as the visitors bundled out for 364 runs.
England got off to a poor start as Mohammed Siraj removed Dominic Sibley and Haseeb Hameed on consecutive deliveries, while Mohammad Shami dismissed Rory Burns on 49 runs. Joe Root batted well and scored 180 runs off 321 balls while Bairstow also completed his half-century. Siraj took 4 wickets and Ishant Sharma took three wickets.
Rohit and Rahul failed to score runs in the second innings, but Pujara and Rahane put on a brilliant, match-changing 100-run stand. The crucial unbeaten 89-run partnership between Shami and Bumrah helped India to post a 272-run target for the hosts.
Virat Kohli and Co. had only 60 overs to knock the opposition out, and they’ve done it with more than 8 overs to spare as none of the England batters were able to make a big contribution in the run-chase. Siraj again took 4 wickets in the second innings while Bumrah took three wickets and Ishant picked up two wickets.
