Patna: A big ruckus has arisen in Bihar politics. An FIR has been lodged in Patna for threatening to shoot Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a live TV debate. On Tuesday, Bihar Pradesh Youth Congress representative Shastri reached the Nagar police station and gave a written complaint against the BJP spokesperson.

What is the case?

In fact, during a live debate on a news channel in Kerala on 27 September 2025, BJP’s official spokesperson Pintu Mahadev made controversial remarks about Rahul Gandhi. Amid the debate, he allegedly threatened Rahul Gandhi to “shoot in the chest”. This statement spread rapidly everywhere and the opposition parties surrounded the BJP, calling it an open threat to murder.

FIR lodged in Patna

Bihar Pradesh Youth Congress reached Shastri Nagar police station on Tuesday against this threat. There, Legal Cell President Nand Kumar Sagar submitted the application saying that the BJP spokesperson has not only made serious criminal threats, but it is an attack on the democratic system of the country. The application states that if such incidents are not taken immediate action, then it will be a message to the public that such threats have received silent approval of the ruling party. The police station in -charge has registered the case in the station diary and assured to register an FIR in appropriate sections after examining the available video.

Congress attacks BJP

Bihar Pradesh Youth Congress Chairman Vikas Kumar Jha said on the matter, “This is an example of the BJP spokesperson’s Godsist mentality. It cannot be taken lightly. The way Rahul Gandhi was threatened to openly shoot is very embarrassing and dangerous.”

Congress spokesperson Gyan Ranjan also alleged that this statement of the BJP spokesperson is not his thinking alone, but behind it is the silent support of the top leadership of the BJP. He said that this could be a well thought out strategy to intimidate opposition leaders and spoil the atmosphere before the assembly elections.

Earlier on September 28, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding immediate action in the matter. He had said that threatening a leader in a democratic system is a very serious crime.
