This temple is open for 24 hours
Varanasi i.e. Kashi, where some mantra comes out of every street. The morning here is from Aarti and the night is from the praise of Shankar, but do you know that there is a tradition in this city that does not see the day, neither night, nor weather nor time? In the Kashi Vishwanath temple, there is 24 hours, seven days, 365 days of the year on that Shivling of Lord Shiva. This tradition is not just faith, but a symbol of the living spiritual consciousness of India.
Kashi: The city where Shiva himself resides
It has been said in Hindu beliefs that Kashi is not a common pilgrimage, but Lord Shiva himself has described it as his beloved city. According to Skanda Purana, “Kashyam Tu Maranam Mukti:” means death in Kashi is also the door of salvation. The Kashi Vishwanath temple located in this city was repeatedly demolished, looted, but Shiva Bhakti here never broke. There is a tradition of offering water 24 hours on the Shivling installed in this temple. Devotees visit here day and night and offer water, milk, belpatra, honey etc. All the time some devotee stands in front of Mahadev.
Jalabhishek continues at 3 o’clock in the night
This temple is open to devotees not only throughout the day, but also all night. Many times it has been seen that even at 3 o’clock in the night, people are engaged in line, taking Ganga water in their hands, chanting Har Har Mahadev. There is no holiday in this tradition, no “Aarti time” restrictions and no “special philosophy”, common devotees can also offer water to Mahadev here at any time.
This tradition never stopped in history
The pages of history are witnesses that even when Aurangzeb broke the Kashi Vishwanath temple, the Shiva devotees continued the Jalabhishek in some form or the other. This tradition is still as lively as it was at that time. Even when the Ghats of Kashi were rebuilt during the British period, the recognition of this temple remained intact. The local Brahmins, saints and common citizens here accepted this tradition as their religion.
Shiva’s service did not stop even in lockdown
Even when temples across the country were closed in Kovid Lockdown of 2020, Jalabhishek continued daily in the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Devotees were not allowed to come in, but the priests of the temple continued to serve God like duty. Then the administration also admitted that the Kashi Vishwanath temple was “stayed without worship and Abhishek without stopping”, even though the darshan was closed for the common people.
Scientists also believe in the energy of this place
In the world of science, many research has been done about Kashi. Some scientists believe that a wonderful energy cycle is active under the land here, which gives mental and spiritual peace. Perhaps this is the reason that Jalabhishek here becomes not just a ritual, but a spiritual experience.
Shiva in Kashi is “not sleeping”, so Abhishek does not stop. This temple of Kashi is not just a building, but the center of Sanatan tradition. Here the tradition of Jalabhishek of Mahadev teaches that devotion does not see any time. Where there is reverence, service is also constant. It is believed that Shiva’s awakening form is seated in Kashi because Shivalinga never dries up, and the Ganges of devotion never stops.
