There is a big change in the population of India. The recently released World Population Policy report has revealed that India’s fertility rate is steadily declining.

According to the report, by the end of 2025, India’s population can reach 1.46 billion, while the fertility rate has come down to 1.9.

Even though the fertility rate at the national level has reduced, there are some states in India where the number of children’s birth is still the highest. Let us know which states are at the forefront of the rise of India’s population and what is the condition of the sex ratio.

In which state most children are born?

According to the statistics of the census held in 2011, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are two big states where women give birth to children.

According to the report, about 2.5 crore children were born in 2022 in India. If you look at state -wise statistics:

  • Uttar Pradesh: The highest number of 54.5 lakh children were born.
  • Bihar: Stayed at number two, where this figure was 30.7 lakhs.
  • Maharashtra: Birth of 19.2 lakh children was recorded.
  • In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan too, the number of birth registration (birth registration) was quite high.

Talking about South India, in the year 2022, there were comparatively low berth registration in the states here:

  • Tamil Nadu: 9.4 lakhs
  • Telangana: 7 lakhs
  • Andhra Pradesh: 7.5 lakhs
  • Karnataka: 10.4 lakhs
  • Kerala: The lowest only 4.4 lakh berth registrations were done.
  • Where is the increase or decline in the last 10 years?
  • Uttar Pradesh: Since 2013, there has been a tremendous increase of 40 % in birth registration.
  • Bihar: In 2013, more than 16 lakh children were born, which has almost doubled in 10 years.
  • Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh: There has been a gradual increase in birth registration in these states.
  • Karnataka: In 2013, 10.4 lakh births were recorded, which increased to 11 lakhs by 2017 but then reduced to 10.4 lakhs in 2022.
  • Tamil Nadu: There was a decline trend here too. In 2013, where the berth registration was 11.9 lakh, it was reduced to 9.4 lakh in 2022.

Sex ratio: worrying situation in some states

Talking about the sex ratio (the number of women per thousand men), many of these states are struggling with bad sex ratio.

  • Bihar: Despite a large birth rate, 891 women per thousand men are one of the lowest sex ratio in the country.
  • Maharashtra: 906
  • Telangana: 907
  • Gujarat: 908
  • Haryana: 916

At the same time, Nagaland has 1068 sex ratio which is the highest in India. This shows that while some states are progressing in population control, there are still many challenges on the birth rate and sex ratio which needs to be noted.
