This Indian player retired

Karnataka’s star all-rounder and former IPL player Krishnappa Gautam has retired from all formats of cricket at the age of 37. Famous for off-spin bowling and explosive batting in the lower order, Gautam gave many memorable performances from domestic cricket to IPL. Gautam’s journey started in Ranji Trophy in 2012, when he dismissed big names like Suresh Raina and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in his debut match against Uttar Pradesh.

The 2016–17 Ranji season proved to be the turning point of his career, where he took 27 wickets in eight matches and proved himself to be a true all-rounder. He also scored his first first-class century in the season against Assam in Mysore. In domestic cricket, he took more than 320 wickets in first-class and List A matches and played many useful innings. He remained an important member of the Karnataka team till 2023. But at the international level, Gautam got a chance to play an ODI match on the Sri Lanka tour in 2021, where he also took a wicket in Colombo. However, after this he never got a chance to play for Team India.

Came into limelight due to this controversy

Krishnappa Gautam became a part of India A team many times and played against teams like New Zealand A, West Indies A, Australia A. But he took leave from the Duleep Trophy in 2017 citing illness and a few days later he was found playing in the Karnataka Premier League, after which there was a huge uproar and the BCCI dropped him from the team to play against New Zealand A.
