Mohammed Shami joined Bengal’s practice session at Eden Gardens ahead of the first match of Ranji Trophy 2025-26 against Uttarakhand. He has been included in the team for this tournament. During this, he gave a big statement on not getting a place in the team. Shami said, ‘I have said earlier also that selection is not in my hands. If there is a fitness issue then I should not play for Bengal. I have played Champions Trophy 2025, IPL 2025, Duleep Trophy and I am in good touch.

Talking about being dropped from Australia tour and fitness update, he said, ‘I feel that I do not need to speak on this and create controversy. If I can play four-day cricket, I can also play 50-over cricket. As far as fitness updates are concerned, they will have to ask for it, it is not my responsibility to give updates or ask for updates. My job is to go to NCA (Centre of Excellence), prepare and play matches. That is their matter, who gives them updates, who does not.

But now he is struggling to make a place in the team. But he is also calling himself fit, which may raise questions on Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee.
