Humayun Kabir on Babri Masjid: Suspended MLA Humayun Kabir from Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress is once again in the headlines. Kabir has said that a mosque named Babri will be built in Murshidabad district of West Bengal within 3 years and no power can stop it. After being suspended from Trinamool Congress, Kabir said in an interview that the construction work of the mosque will start from February 2026.
This is not Ayodhya but Murshidabad, no one can touch Babri Masjid.
Humayun Kabir said, this is not Ayodhya but Murshidabad. My challenge is that no one can touch Babri Masjid here. Kabir further said, his decision to build a mosque with the name Babri is related to the incident of 1992, when the mosque was demolished in Ayodhya. Also, in the decision of 2019, the Supreme Court gave permission to build Ram temple on the site of the mosque. Kabir said that he had accepted the court’s decision, but now the mosque in the name of Babri should be built somewhere else.
I have nothing to do with Babar, but..
Humayun Kabir said, I have nothing to do with Babar. I named it Babri Masjid because people still feel pain. If it is right to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during elections, then it is also right to say ‘Allah Hu Akbar’.” Kabir said that a lot of funds have already been collected to build the mosque and the money is kept at his house. More than Rs 20 crore has been received from various supporters and donors and this amount will be completely used for the mosque. Kabir said, we have taken 25 bighas of land and the paperwork is going on. Preparations will start in February. And the mosque will be completed in three years. Friday prayers will be offered here every week and lakhs of bricks have already arrived.
What did Kabir say on differences with TMC?
Kabir said that due to the actions of TMC, his differences with the party increased, which resulted in his suspension. He said that he did not leave the party on his own will, rather Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had expelled him from the party after accusing him of anti-party activities. Kabir said that there has been a lot of difference between Mamta Banerjee then and now. Earlier, she used to listen to everyone and understand people’s problems. Today she has gone away from the public. Kabir alleged that the Trinamool Congress is now being run by political consultants instead of its elected leaders.
Kabir expressed his desire to form his own party
Humayun Kabir said that he will not resign from the post of MLA and instead will form a new political party in late December. Its formal announcement will be made at a public meeting in Baharampur on December 22, where more than one lakh people will gather. He said the new party will contest 135 assembly seats and prevent both BJP and TMC from gaining majority on their own.
