Export and import with America

India’s merchandise exports to America declined by 8.58 percent to $6.3 billion in October for the second consecutive month. Exports have reduced due to America’s heavy duty of 50 percent. According to Commerce Ministry data, imports increased by 13.89 percent to $4.46 billion. During the April-October period of the current financial year, the country’s exports to the US increased by 10.15 per cent to $52.11 billion, while imports increased by 9.73 per cent to $30 billion. America has imposed a heavy duty of 50 percent on Indian products from August 27. Both countries are negotiating a bilateral trade agreement to promote bilateral trade. The Indian team is in America for trade talks. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal said, despite the high duty, we have been able to maintain our position.

Bumper increase in imports to China

On the other hand, amazing figures have been seen in trade with China in October. India’s exports to China were more than 40 percent, which can be placed in the category of a record. It is rare to see such growth in India’s exports to China. According to government data, India’s exports to China increased by 42.35 percent to US $ 1.62 billion in October, while in April-October 2025-26 it increased by 24.77 percent to $ 10.03 billion. Imports from the neighboring country increased by 15.63 percent to US $ 11.1 billion in October, while during the first seven months of this financial year it increased by 11.88 percent to $ 74 billion.

Exports to these countries decreased

UAE, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Bangladesh, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Nepal, Italy, Australia, France, Belgium, South Korea and Malaysia were also among the countries whose exports from India witnessed negative growth during the month under review. However, positive growth was recorded in exports to Hong Kong and Spain. On the import front, imports from Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, South Korea, Indonesia and Taiwan declined in October. However, imports from UAE, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Britain and Thailand increased.
