India’s women’s cricket team recently won the ODI World Cup by ending Australia’s dominance. Now a female cricketer from Australia has expressed her desire to play for India. She wants to see this wish fulfilled after her marriage. The one who wants to play for India is Australian cricketer Amanda Wellington, who has got engaged at the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Amanda Wellington was not a part of the Australian team for the Women’s ODI World Cup in India. But she has been a part of the Australian team that won the ODI World Cup in 2018 and 2022. Amanda told her entire story in a special conversation with News 24 and also expressed her desire to play for Team India.
Engagement with Punjabi boy at Taj Mahal
Amanda Wellington, who played her last match for Australia 3 years ago, told that she is engaged to a Punjabi boy, whose name is Hamraj. The engagement of both took place at the Taj Mahal. He said that Hamraj is a good boy. Hamraj’s family was also present during the engagement.
Amanda Wellington loves India
Amanda Wellington further said that she loves India very much. He likes spicy food here. She is trying to learn the culture, language and music of India. She has started going to the temple. She doesn’t even eat non-veg on Tuesday and Saturday.
Amanda climbed the stage at Daljit Dosanjh’s concert
Amanda’s growing interest in Indian music and culture was also visible in Punjabi singer Daljit Dosanjh’s concert in Adelaide. Not only did he get a chance to go on stage during the performance but he also gifted Daljeet the jersey of Adelaide Strikers team.

Amanda further told that once she and Hamraj get married, they will have dual citizenship. She said that then she would like to play for Team India and hopes that one day it will happen. Amanda Wellington has also entered her name in the WPL 2026 auction. She has full hope that she will get a chance to play in the Indian Women’s T20 League.
