Melbourne: The whole world is praising the 13-year-old boy who swam for four hours to save his family stranded in the sea. This boy named Austin, resident of Perth, Australia is no less than a superhero. In Western Australia, he swam for four hours in stormy seas to rescue his mother and younger siblings. The incident happened on January 30, when they were holidaying in Quindlop. Austin, his mother Joan, 47, brother Beau, 12, and sister Grace, 8, were having fun in the ocean on a rented paddleboard and kayak. Then suddenly strong wind and big waves took them far away from the shore.
Then, 13-year-old Austin swam to shore alone to get help. He swam for four hours and after reaching the shore informed the people so that his family could escape safely. For the first two hours he swam wearing a life jacket, but then took it off. He felt that the jacket was slowing him down, so he continued swimming without the jacket, risking his life.
Upon reaching the shore, Austin fainted from exhaustion. The authorities were informed about this at around 6 pm. The search began with the help of helicopters and boats. Around 8:30 pm, the rest of the family was found clinging to a single paddleboard, about 14 kilometers from shore. A volunteer rescue boat brought all three back to shore. Officials said that due to the accurate information given by Austin, the rescue team was able to find the family within an hour.
Everyone is undergoing treatment and according to officials, no one has suffered any serious injuries. The media has compared this child’s work to superheroes like Batman and Spiderman. Inspector James Bradley of the South West District Office said in a statement that the child’s determination and courage saved the lives of his mother and siblings.
