Cold wave is going on in many areas of the country, especially in North India. The Meteorological Department says that the cold may increase further in the coming days. Rising temperatures and cold winds can harm health. In such a situation, doctors of AIIMS Delhi have alerted people and advised to take special precautions. Doctors have issued some guidelines for heart, kidney, diabetes patients and others. By following which one can easily be protected from cold wave in this season.
Dr. Rajiv Narang, Professor in the Department of Cardiology at Delhi AIIMS, said that it is winter at this time and cold wave is also going on in some areas. BP starts increasing in winter, due to which there is difficulty in breathing, swelling in legs and difficulty in walking. In such a situation, patients suffering from blood pressure disease are advised to check their BP twice a week, if BP is more than 140/90 then take medicine. If you are not getting relief then consult a doctor immediately.
Take special care of your diet in this season and take less salt in your diet. Keep your body hydrated and drink at least 7 glasses of water a day. This is because drinking less water thickens the blood. This increases the risk of heart attack.
Patients with respiratory diseases should keep these things in mind
Dr. Sandeep Sinha at AIIMS said that health can deteriorate significantly due to cold wave. Due to this, problems like cough and phlegm start occurring. Pollution and cold wave together can become dangerous. Some people also get pneumonia due to this. Pollution and cold waves also increase the risk of heart attack.
In this season, people suffering from asthma or respiratory diseases also need to pay special attention. Avoid leaving the house in the morning. If absolutely necessary, go out only wearing an N-95 mask. Wear warm clothes and multiple layers of clothes, i.e. more than one warm clothes, and keep your head, feet, ears and chest covered.
Diabetic patients need to take special precautions
Dr. Rakesh Khadgawat, Professor in the Department of Endocrinology at AIIMS, says that due to extreme cold, people stop going out, due to which the physical activity of some people stops, which increases the risk. In such a situation, it is important to do exercise, yoga at home, do not eat food frequently, if there is kidney problem along with diabetes then take special care. Pneumocobal vaccine must be administered after the age of 65, this reduces the risk of infection. Go to the hospital if the sugar level is more than 300.
At AIIMS, Dr. Abhijit Rao advised senior citizens not to go out of the house in the morning and evening, stay at home. You can go out in the sun only for 30-45 minutes. People aged 60 plus should keep warm water, hot food, multilayer clothes, socks, and head covering at this time. Do not go out at all in the morning and evening.
