New generation expressway designs include controlled entry-exits, improved service lanes and emergency facilities. This is expected to reduce road accidents and increase convenience in long distance travel. Travel from North to South, which is currently entangled in the network of state and national highways at many places, will become more direct and time bound.
The government aims to connect the entire expressway network of the state in the next five years. If the projects are completed within the stipulated time frame, Uttar Pradesh will be among those states in the country where the road network will be strong not only on the East-West but also on the North-South axis.
Bareilly-Agra-Jhansi-Lalitpur corridor is being viewed with this broader vision. This project is not just a layer of concrete and asphalt, but an attempt to redefine the economic geography of Uttar Pradesh. Its progress and pace of implementation in the coming years will decide how firmly this dream comes to fruition.
