There will be a brake on fake photos and videos being made through AI, Ashwini Vaishnav said – platforms will have to take responsibility for the content.

In the digital world we see a lot of news and videos every day. But is all this true? Deceptive videos created by AI i.e. deepfakes are having a deep impact on our everyday lives. Sensing this danger, the government has now issued a strict warning to social media and tech companies.

Now platforms will have to take full responsibility

This issue became heated in a big program of Digital News Publishers Association organized in Delhi. Union Information and Broadcasting and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has made it clear that the platforms showing content can no longer run away from their responsibilities. The company will have full responsibility for the content being published or hosted on the platform.

As a common citizen, when we use the internet, it is our right to get correct information. The minister said that deepfakes and misinformation have become the biggest threat to society and democratic institutions today. In such a situation, it is the basic duty of tech companies to maintain public trust.

Preparation to control AI generated photo-video

In this era of Artificial Intelligence, it has become very easy to make a video by changing anyone’s voice or face. Due to this, the privacy and security of common people is in danger. To stop this, the government has made it clear that it will be mandatory to take the express consent of any person or authority before creating AI content.

This step is being taken to secure the digital rights of the common man. This simply means that without your permission no one will be able to create a fake digital avatar of you. Online security and authenticity of content on the Internet is going to be the most important part of future policies.

Society runs on trust: Vaishnav

Vaishnav said that our entire society depends on the trust of institutions like judiciary, legislature and media. The basic work of media is to deliver true news to the public without any bias. But online threats today have raised questions on this credibility. Challenges like safety of children and prevention of synthetic content are standing in front of us. Whose solution is necessary.
