For cricket fans, IPL is not just a tournament but like a festival. Filled with the love and support of crores of spectators, the brand value of this league has been at its peak for many years. But now a continuous decline is being seen in its graph. The valuation of IPL has reduced from ₹82,700 crore to ₹76,100 crore in 2025, i.e. a decline of about ₹6,600 crore. This is the second consecutive year that the price of the league has decreased.
What is the main reason for the decline?
There are two main reasons for this decline, firstly the sudden ban imposed on Real Money Gaming (RMG) companies and secondly the end of competition for media rights. Earlier, where RMG companies used to provide support of ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 crore every year to leagues and franchises, now that income has suddenly stopped.
On the other hand, when JioStar acquired all the broadcasting and streaming rights of IPL, competition in the market almost ended. This weakened the bargaining power of BCCI and took a hit to the valuation.
No more auction, need for sustainable model
According to D&P Advisory’s new report Beyond 22 Yards 2025, IPL’s business is now gradually moving towards a sustainable earning model instead of fast profits. The report said that the strength of the league remains intact, but future growth will now depend on smart planning and long-term vision.

In terms of brand value, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has won this time. It topped the list of franchises, followed by Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). No matter what these three teams have been like on the field, their shine as a brand remains intact.
