The secret of the idol of Jagannath
Jagannath Temple of Puri is world famous. Every year millions of devotees attend the Rath Yatra and see God, but a question still resonates in the minds of the devotees, who coined these incomplete but mysterious idols? The story recorded in the Puranas leads to this mystery.
Divine dreams and liquor
The story is that King Indradyumna was an exclusive devotee of Lord Vishnu. One night, in a dream, God ordered him to establish his form with divine liquor (wood) flowing on the beach. When the king saw that wood, the divine sharp was appearing in it.
Mysterious craftsman
The king called many artists for the construction of the idol, but no one could touch that divine liquor. Then on praying, an old carpenter appeared in front of them and I can make idols, but there is a condition. Until I work inside, do not open any door. Raja and Rani gave this promise. He was not the carpenter, but Vishwakarma, the craftsman of the gods, who came in secret.
Divine idols on incomplete
Days passed. There was no sound from outside. The queen doubted and opened the door. The idols inside were made incomplete inside. The hands and feet were not fully fabricated, but they had supernatural aura. Vishwakarma had become invisible from there. This is the reason that even today the idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra appear incomplete, but devotees believe that the secret of God is hidden in these incompleteness.
Dev Shilpi Vishwakarma’s workmanship
According to the Puranas, the stronghold of these idols is not an ordinary person, but the god Shilpi Vishwakarma himself. He gave the form of the dark-behest Jagannath, which the devotees are blessed by just seeing.
Mystery or message?
Devotees believe that this form of Lord Jagannath teaches us that God is not fulfilled by perfection, but with faith and devotion. This is the reason that Jagannath’s Rath Yatra and his philosophy are still the biggest celebration of life for devotees. The idol of dark salone Jagannath is the supernatural workmanship of Dev Shilpi Vishwakarma.
