Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management: The situation deteriorated due to heavy rains and landslides in the state, 404 deaths so far. 598 roads closed, 500 transformers and 184 water supply schemes affected. Mandi, Kullu, Shimla districts are the most troubled.

Monsoon of death in Himachal

In Himachal, 404 deaths, 598 roads closed and 500 transformers stalled since June 20. The rains severely affected both the life and connectivity of the state.

In Himachal Pradesh, the situation remains serious due to continuous rains and landslides. According to the latest report of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 404 people have died since June 20. Road, electricity and water supply is badly affected, causing problems in both rural and urban areas.

598 roads closed, three national highways affected

SDMA reported that 598 roads are still closed in the state, including three National Highways (NH-03, NH-305 and NH-503A).

  • 172 roads closed in Kullu district, including Manali -Atal Tunnel Rohtang Marg and Anni -Jalori highway.
  • 201 roads in Mandi district are still disrupted.
  • There are 57 roads closed in Shimla district, affecting the connectivity of rural areas.

Electricity and water supply stalled

500 power transformers and 184 drinking water schemes have been affected due to frequent landslides and rain.

  • 314 transformers are not working in Mandi district.
  • The water crisis in many villages has deepened due to a stagnation of 49 water supply schemes in Shimla district.

Death data worrying

A total of 404 people have been reported dead since June 20.

  • 229 people died due to rain -related incidents such as landslides, floods, drowning and house collapse.
  • There were 175 deaths in road accidents.

Big loss in Una and Kullu

The NH-503A had to be shut down due to the walls of the Bhadasali bridge in Una district. The movement of heavy vehicles in Kullu has still been stopped.

Problems in relief and restoration work

The state government and local administration have intensified the restoration work. Heavy machinery has been installed to open highways and rural roads. However, frequent landslides and bad weather are becoming a major obstacle in relief work.

Union Minister visit

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta visited Mandi and Kullu on Sunday. During this, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur was also present. Jairam Thakur said that on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers have been sent to Himachal, so that the loss at the ground level can be assessed. Ajay Tamta will submit his report to the central government, on the basis of which further relief work will be given momentum.
