Beijing: A young man who took sick leave for leg pain was fired by his company after it was discovered that he had walked 16,000 steps. After this the young man complained against the company and the court ordered it to pay compensation. This incident is from China. The legal action, which lasted for years, started in 2019. A young man named Chen was fired from a company in Jiangsu province of eastern China. In 2019, when the young man was working in the company, he suffered severe back pain. Due to this he had applied for sick leave twice. The company discharged him after submitting the hospital investigation report as proof.

After resting for about a month, Chen returned to work. But, after coming to work, the young man felt pain in his leg and again applied for a week’s leave. The reason he gave for the sick leave was that the doctor had advised him to take rest for a week due to pain in his right leg. Chen extended his medical leave by several days. After extending the leave, the company asked Chen to come to the office and submit the hospital documents. When he reached the office, the security did not allow him to enter. A few days later, the company fired the young man from his job, accusing him of making false excuse of illness. Subsequently, Chen filed a case in Labor Arbitration. The young man claimed in the court that he had solid medical records for whatever leave he had taken.

At the same time, the young man’s company approached the court against this. The company presented before the court the footage of that day, in which Chen was running towards the company on the day of sick leave due to leg pain. The company also provided evidence that Chen had walked more than 16,000 steps that day. But, the young man claimed that the company’s evidence was not valid and he had submitted complete hospital records including hip and leg scan reports. Ultimately, the court was convinced that the company had fired the young man illegally and directed the company to pay compensation. Not just one or two rupees, rather the court directed the company to pay a compensation of Rs 14 lakh. Well, now the young man is happy that he filed a case against the company for his illegal termination and the court got him compensation.
