But why did both of them not go to the Red Fort program?
Congress spokesperson Ajay Upadhyay responded to this while taking part in a debate on Aaj Tak TV channel. They said,
The post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, after the Prime Minister, has been sitting in the next line with the status of Cabinet Minister. From Jawaharlal Nehru to Manmohan Singh, whoever has been in government. This tradition has been. Whichever party has been the opposition, he has been seated in the next line. When Rahul Gandhi became the Leader of Opposition, he was seated in the last line on the occasion of Independence Day last year.
Upadhyay further said
Both Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge hold constitutional post. In such a situation, it is a matter of dignity of constitutional post. There is no case of a person. Rahul Gandhi is not a case. Mallikarjun Kharge is also not a case.
Upadhyay said that if this is being done with a person sitting in constitutional post, then it is a violation of the dignity of the Constitution. The two leaders (at the Congress headquarters) celebrated the national festival so that there is no violation of dignity. The national flag was hoisted.
According to Upadhyay, PM Modi wants to politics this issue and it should not be politics, so Rahul Gandhi and Khage stay away from the Red Fort program.
However, no official reason has been given by the Congress automatically.
