When Surajbhan wrote his story in Mokama
In the 90s, when ‘Lalu Raj’ dominated the politics of Bihar, Mokama was known as Dilip Singh and Anant Singh. But in the year 2000, Surajbhan Singh changed the picture of this area. As an independent candidate, he had defeated the then powerful minister, late Dilip Singh. At that time it was said that no railway contract was passed without Suraj Bhan’s signal. His reach was said to be from Patna to Gorakhpur. Name in more than 50 cases, but his influence among the public was so much that even in the midst of crime, his influence remained.
Political change came again
In 2004, Surajbhan became MP on the ticket of Ram Vilas Paswan’s party LJP. But after being convicted in the Brij Bihari Prasad murder case, he had to step out of electoral politics. Then the command of politics went into the hands of his wife Veena Devi and brother Chandan Singh. Both became MPs, at one time the “Suraj Bhan factor” was visible again from Delhi to Mokama.
Preparing to repeat history again
Now the same Mokama is in the headlines again. Those close to Surajbhan Singh are indicating that this time his wife Veena Devi can be fielded on RJD ticket and strong leader Anant Singh will be in front. This is the same Anant Singh whom the people of Mokama know as Chhote Sarkar. From jail to public meeting, his every step becomes news. Recently, a statement by Anant Singh again scratched the old wounds and it is being said that Suraj Bhan camp has now made this election a “mission, not a contest”.
