To compare prices, customers have to go to the ‘Savingswithgst.in’ portal and add items of their choice to the cart. Subsequently, the cart will show three different rates of goods in ‘base price’, ‘selling price’ under ‘VAT’ and ‘Sailing Price’ under ‘Next-Jen GST’. Customers will have the option to choose any item with any specific category category. Under this category, options for food, breakfast, domestic, domestic electronics, kitchens and lifestyle goods are given. For example, if milk is selected from the food products and added to the cart, the price of 60 rupees per liter of milk will be seen at Rs 63.6 with VAT and Rs 60 under Next-Jen GST.

There will be only two slabs in GST

Earlier this week, the GST Council approved to reduce the earlier four-level tax structure (5,12,18 and 28 percent) in two slabs-5 percent and 18 percent-as well as an additional slab of 40 percent for goods and luxury items. This step has been taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Independence Day speech after the announcement of Next Jane’s GST reform during Diwali this year. GST reforms will reduce the families by reducing tax on everyday needs and packaged food products.

What tax will be levied on

Ultra-high temperature (UHT) will be taxed on products like milk, pre-pack and labeled chena or cheese, and all Indian breads, while household items like soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, tableware and bicycle will be charged 5 percent GST. With this, taxes have been reduced from 12 per cent or 18 per cent on foods like packaged namkeen, bhujia, sauce, pasta, chocolate, coffee, protected meat, etc., and reduced from 18 per cent of consumers like TV, AC, dishwasher less than 32 inches, and have been reduced from 28 per cent. Tax on small cars and two -wheelers with capacity less than 350 cc will be reduced by 28 percent to 18 percent. The tax on agricultural machinery and irrigation equipment will be reduced from 12 percent to 5 percent. Whereas tax on tobacco, paan masala and luxury items will be 40 percent.
