Even before the birth of Soni Kumari, her father Nandkishore Ram had died. His mother Gulaichi Devi works as a daily wage laborer to feed the family. Gulaichi Devi was faced with the question whether to spend money on her daughter’s treatment or to support the family. Amidst all these difficulties, 15 year old Soni continued going to school with her weak legs. Someone made a video of his difficult journey and posted it on social media, which went viral within no time. After Soni’s story came to light, many people including BJP MLA Maithili Thakur, actor Sonu Sood and poet Kumar Vishwas extended their helping hand.
‘Poor’ gift from district administration
When the matter went viral, the district administration also came into action and gifted a tricycle to Soni. But this gift has now become a problem for the administration itself. The bicycle broke down within a few days of receiving the gift. It was a hand-operated three-wheeled bicycle, but the rod attached to its pedals broke. People are alleging on social media that very poor quality material was used in making the bicycle, due to which it broke so quickly.

Soni says that she wants to study and serve the people of her village. For this she dreams of becoming a doctor.
