The country’s first and the world’s third urban public transport ropeway will start soon in Varanasi. Companies from Switzerland and Austria are manufacturing it. The journey from Cantt to Godaulia will be completed in 16 minutes by 3.85 km long ropeway.
Varanasi. After Lapaz, the administrative capital of Bolivia, and Mexico, Kashi is now going to become the third city in the world, where tourists and local people will be able to travel through urban public transport ropeway. This will be the country’s first and the world’s third urban ropeway.

Yogi government is continuously making efforts to make the traffic system in Kashi smooth and fast. Under this, along with projects like construction of flyovers, ring roads, widening of roads, modern parking lots, urban public transport ropeway is also being constructed.
Ropeway is being constructed as per international standards
International standards are being completely followed in the construction, operation and safety of the ropeway. It is being constructed in accordance with the Central European Norms (CEN), which set global guidelines for the safe construction, operation and maintenance of ropeways.
Installation and trial runs under the supervision of foreign engineers
The installation of ropeway and rope pulling work in the first section of the first phase has been done by foreign engineers. The experts of the company specialized in ropeway construction are also doing its trial run, so that the technical and safety standards can be completely checked.
Companies from Switzerland and Austria are playing an important role
The ropeway is being constructed by Swiss company Berthollet. In the first section of the first phase, the ropeway from Cantt Railway Station to Rath Yatra has been installed by Swiss engineers living in Varanasi. At the same time, engineers from Austria’s expert company “Rope Experts” did the rope pulling work. For this, special drones and modern equipment were imported from Europe.
There will be a total of five ropeway stations from Cantt station to Godaulia.
This ropeway project is being built from Varanasi Cantt Railway Station to Godaulia intersection. There will be a total of five stations on this route-

3.85 kilometer long ropeway, complete journey in 16 minutes
The total length of the ropeway is 3.85 kilometers. It will take approximately 16 minutes for passengers to reach Godaulia from Cantt Railway Station, which will provide great relief from traffic jams.
148 Gondola, capacity of 6,000 passengers every hour
A total of 148 trolley cars (gondola) will run on this ropeway.
