The Bengal Files: Vivek Agnihotri Reacts To Protests At Bengal Cinema Halls Against ‘Unofficial Ban’ Of His Movie

The Bengal Files: Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama movie has hit the silver screen across the nation on September 5. It was only in Bengal, that the film was not screened in major theatres despite not being banned.

Now, in response, several movie watchers are thronging theatres to protest against the move. Seeing this on social media, Agnihotri was in great relief that people are actually taking a step to watch the film. He further urged people to protest by tagging all big multiplex chains.

Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, “Finally, Bengalis in Bengal are protesting at cinema halls against the unofficial ban of #TheBengalFiles. You can also protest by tagging all big multiplex chains.” Several social media users have also supported this move. A user wrote, “@_PVRCinemas if you dont showcase #theBengalFiles, my family and I wont visit any PVR hall for the next 5 years. Thats my condition.” Another user suggested, “You are greatly mistaken if you feel such protests in small pockets will change heart. Going to court is the only option.”

A tweet read, “I would request the East Bengali Community of W. Bengal to Come out in huge Numbers a Protest against this Film’s Blockades.. As this is a Story of them, which their Ancestors had faced in a Large Scale.. & had to flee from their Original Homeland & take Shelter as Refugees.”

On September 5, Agnihotri urged the people of West Bengal to force the government to release it in the state. He tweeted, “Please raise your voice and force Bengal government and multiplex chains to release it in Bengal.”
