This match was being played between Ireland and Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, where the Irish team batted first. But a stumping in the 8th over of the innings confused everyone. At first it seemed that the batsman was out, but ICC rules saved the batsman.
Batsman not out despite stumping
In fact, on the fifth ball of the 8th over of the match, Oman’s spinner Aamir Kaleem bowled a length ball to Lorcan Tucker, which started from outside the leg stump and moved forward with the arm. But Tucker missed while trying to flick forward and came out of the crease. In such a situation, wicketkeeper Vinayak Shukla collected the ball brilliantly on the leg side, but slipped a little. He controlled himself and then uprooted the vines. After this incident the batsman seemed clearly out.
Everything seemed as if Tucker was out, because he could not return to the crease. But the umpire immediately noticed that Shukla had uprooted the bails with the hand that did not have the ball. The ball was in his left hand, while he removed the bails with his right hand. According to cricket rules, for stumping, it is necessary to dislodge the bails while keeping the ball in hand, and if both hands are not joined together or the ball is in different hands, then it is not considered legal stumping.
Recently the umpire made a mistake
A similar incident was also seen during the Australia-Pakistan series earlier this month. Cooper Connolly was stumped by Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz. Wicketkeeper Khawaja Nafe had caught the ball on the leg side and dropped the bails. But the ball was in Nafe’s right hand. Then the umpire did not pay attention and gave the batsman out. However, he was not out. But this time the umpire gave the right decision.
