New Delhi: Tesla recently declared their Q2 sales numbers and during the call, Elon Musk revealed Tesla’s future in the entry-level model won’t be a new car but an “affordable Model Y”. At the start of the year, Tesla was confidentthat they had high expectations from the coming time with new launches with one being a new “affordable model”.
At first, the “Affordable Tesla” a completely new model deemed to be called Model 2 on debut is likely to be a stripped-out version of the brand’s best-selling model. This series of the Tesla Model could be seen in production from either August or September of the year. Musk is yet to say if this is a one-off for the Model Y or if others like the Model 3 will venture into the affordable range as well.
The entry-level Tesla will aim to increase the brand’s sales. Further, the introduction of the affordable Model Y to the European market will also allow Tesla to have buyers at the entry price. Tesla has seen sales in the continent in a downward curve for a long time, losing the market share for the last six months in the continent due to the overall decline in electric car sales and also due to the increasing competition from Chinese brands.
Tesla entered the Indian market with Model Y at the start of this month, with the vehicle costing Rs lakh in the country for the RWD, and the Long Range RWD comes at Rs 68 lakh. Though at first the brand had opened bookings for a limited number of cities, now they have opened pan-India.
