Eight people have been arrested from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on suspicion of being linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Bangladeshi terrorist network. Posters were put up in Delhi and Kolkata. Investigation into the conspiracy of IED attack on Red Fort and religious places is going on.
New Delhi. Eight people have been arrested from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on suspicion of hatching a major terrorist conspiracy in India with the alleged support of Pakistan’s terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and terrorist groups of Bangladesh. According to sources, six suspects, Mizanur Rahman, Mohammed Shabat, Umar, Mohammed Liton, Mohammed Shahid and Mohammed Ujjal, were caught from garment manufacturing units in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu. Two other accused were arrested from West Bengal. According to officials, a Bangladeshi national is also among the arrested suspects.
Fake Aadhaar card, mobile and SIM card recovered
Sources say that the accused were allegedly using fake Aadhaar cards to hide their identities. Police have recovered dozens of mobile phones and 16 SIM cards from the suspects. Tamil Nadu Police has arrested all the accused and they are being handed over to Delhi Police for further investigation.
Posters put up in Delhi and Kolkata
According to officials, about 10 days ago the accused had put up posters like ‘Free Kashmir’ and ‘Stop Genocide in Kashmir’ at more than 10 places including metro stations in Delhi and Kolkata. Investigation has revealed that he had received funding from terrorist organizations. They were either in direct contact or connected through social media. Some of the accused were in contact with a handler in Bangladesh, who is currently said to be present in Pakistan.
Input of conspiracy to attack IED on major religious places
The action comes at a time when security agencies had given input that Lashkar-e-Taiba may be planning blasts near major religious places in the country, including Delhi’s Red Fort and a temple in Chandni Chowk. According to sources, the organization may be planning to attack with Improvised Explosive Device (IED). It is being told that this conspiracy was being hatched with the intention of taking revenge of the suicide attack on a mosque in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on 6 February. 31 people were killed and more than 160 people were injured in that attack. However, Islamic State claimed responsibility for that attack.
Red Fort car blast and connection with old events
The latest terrorist conspiracy has come to light about three months after the car blast that took place near the Red Fort. 12 people were killed and about two dozen people were injured in this blast. On November 10, there was a blast in a car filled with explosives near the Red Fort metro station, due to which several nearby vehicles caught fire. Investigation revealed that Kashmiri doctor Omar Mohammad alias Omar Un Nabi, working at Al-Falah University, Faridabad, Haryana, was driving that car.
2900 kg explosives recovered, module members arrested
On the day of the incident, 2,900 kg of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, were recovered about 50 km from Faridabad. According to sources, when the investigating agencies arrested two important terrorists of the module, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel and Dr. Adil Rather, they seized explosives. At the same time, Umar Mohammad got scared and in a hurry he blew himself up near the Red Fort.
