The woman trapped in the web of cyber thugs has been identified as Babita Das. She is a resident of Vigyan Nagar, New Thippasandra, Bengaluru. Babita Das works in an IT company and lived with her 10-year-old son. A few months ago, swindlers called him posing as an employee of Blue Dart Courier Company. The callers introduced themselves as Mumbai Police and then started threatening them. They threatened, “We are arresting you right now. Until we verify you, you cannot go anywhere. You have to install the app we suggest and deposit money into our account.” Not only this, he also threatened that if he did not do so, his son might face difficulties in his life.

Mistaking the Mumbai Police for fear of threats from cyber thugs, Babita Das sold her property and deposited the money in the thugs’ account. He sold his two sites in Malur at half the price. The flat in which she lived in Vigyan Nagar was also sold and the money received from it was deposited in the account of the thugs. Not only this, he also took a loan from ICICI Bank and transferred the money to the fraudsters. In this way Babita Das gradually lost Rs 2 crore. Later, when he realized that he was cheated, he lodged a complaint at the cyber crime police station. A case has been registered at Whitefield CEN police station and the police is laying a trap to nab the accused.
