Bengaluru: Subramanyapura police have arrested the tenant couple who went to the house on the pretext of watching TV, murdered the landlady and looted a gold chain. Prasad Srisailam Makay and his wife Sakshi Hanumant Hodlur, residents of Uttarahalli, have been arrested. The murder took place when 65-year-old Sri Lakshmi was alone at home on Tuesday afternoon. Within a few hours of the murder, Inspector Raju’s team caught the killer couple.

Prasad and Sakshi, residents of Solapur, Maharashtra, who came to the city in search of work four months ago, lived on rent in Sri Lakshmi’s house in Uttarahalli. Lakshmi lived with her husband Ashwath Narayan. A family named Phaniraj lives on the first floor. Prasad worked as a centerer and Sakshi was earning his living by working in a jewelery shop in Padmanabhanagar. The couple had a good relationship with the landlords. But recently, they fell into deep debt and decided to steal from the landlady.

Narayan used to work in an incense stick factory near Cottonpet and used to go every morning and return home in the evening. At that time Lakshmi was alone at home. Knowing this, the Prasad couple conspired to murder the landlady in the afternoon. As usual, Narayan went to work on Tuesday morning. After some time, Prasad and Sakshi went to the house of the deceased and said that they wanted to buy a new TV and watch his TV. During the conversation, they strangled Sri Lakshmi to death and looted the gold chain. When he protested during the murder, the accused scratched him. Therefore, scratch marks were found on the neck, lips and face on the dead body.
How did you get arrested?
When Narayan repeatedly called his wife in the afternoon, she did not respond. Frightened by this, he called his tenant Phaniraj and asked him to go home and ask about his wife. When Phaniraj went to the house of the deceased in the evening, he saw Lakshmi lying unconscious and informed Narayan about it. Immediately the deceased’s husband reached home. After this, Narayan called the deceased’s sister Sampat Lakshmi and told her about the incident. Then he told that when he had called his sister Lakshmi at 1 pm, she had said that some people were watching TV and she came out and talked.
While giving this information to the police, Narayan expressed suspicion that someone he knew had come home and committed the murder. The police, who reached the spot and saw the situation, deeply suspected the involvement of some acquaintance. As soon as this clue was received, the police swung into action and on suspicion detained the Prasad couple living on the ground floor and interrogated them, then the truth came out.
The couple was present at home after the murder
After the murder, Prasad and Sakshi were at home. They felt that they might be suspected if they went out, so when the police came to investigate, they continued to behave normally. Initially the police did not suspect the couple. But when the evidence was examined, the police became suspicious of Prasad and when interrogated in custody, the couple revealed the truth. According to sources, the couple has confessed that they had killed Lakshmi to repay the debt.
