Tejaswin Shankar has etched his name in history by winning a bronze medal in the decathlon at the 2026 in Hangzhou.
With this achievement, he has become the first Indian male athlete to secure two medals in this challenging event.
Japan’s Yuma Maruyama clinched the gold medal with a score of 8,123 points, while China’s Chen Jinghua took silver with 8,012 points. Shankar finished third with a total of 7,934 points.
Before the discus throw, Shankar led the standings with 5,270 points. He secured third place in the 110-meter hurdles heat, completing it in 14.33 seconds and earning 932 points.
However, his best throw in the discus was 36.77 meters, falling short of his personal best by nearly four meters. Despite this, Shankar maintained his position in the competition, ending with a total of 5,869 points as athletes from China and Japan surpassed him in the rankings.

In other athletics results, Manju Rani finished sixth in the women’s marathon race walk with a time of 3:40:17. Priyanka Goswami was disqualified at the 9-kilometer mark.
In surfing, Shivraj Babu advanced to the third round of the men’s shortboard competition by defeating Iran’s Davood Khadir with a score of 8.96. He scored 4.83 and 4.13 on his two waves to move forward, joining fellow countryman Kishore Kumar in the next round.
Earlier, Shanti and Kamali Prakash also reached the third round. Shanti defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Wan-Yu with a score of 7.33 to 5.40, while Prakash overcame Singapore’s Camille Mary Spacarotella with a score of 7.57 to 4.50.
