Who was Tejaji Maharaj?
According to the popular story, Tejaji Maharaj is the folk deity of Rajasthan. He was born in Kharnal village in Nagaur district of Rajasthan. Tejaji was heroic since childhood and was ready to help others. One day Tejaji Ji Maharaj went to his in -laws to take his sister.
– He went to the sister’s house and came to know that some bandits are robbing their sister’s cows. Knowing this, he went out in search of bandits. On the way, Tejaji Maharaj found a great snake named language. He wanted to cut Tejaji Maharaj.
– Then Tejaji told him that ‘Let me go this time. I will come to you by redeeming sister’s cows, then you take me. ‘ Listening to Tejaji, the linguistic snake allowed him to leave. After this, Tejaji defeated the bandits and rescued his sister’s singing from them.
Tejaji Maharaj should leave the cows’s house and reach the linguistic snake. Tejaji had several marks on his body by fighting the bandits. Seeing such a condition of Tejaji, the linguist snake said, ‘Your whole body has become impure with blood. Where should I cut you in such a situation? ‘
– Then Tejaji took out his tongue and asked him to cut it. Seeing Tejaji’s commitment, the linguistic snake blessed him and said, ‘The person who suffers from snakebite will not affect the poison on the thread of your name.’ Saying this, the linguist snake bitten his tongue.
Since then, Tejaji Maharaj has been worshiped as Lokdevata. Every year a large number of devotees worship him on Teja Dashami. Those who have tied the thread of Tejaji’s name to avoid snake bite, they reach the temple and open the thread and offer umbrellas.
