The Protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar took a tense mode after police fired tear gas at protestors on Saturday afternoon after the protestors allegedly vandalised the Police booth at Jantar Mantar.
The situation took place after a group of protestors charged at police booth and tried to sabotage surveillance equipment, which forced police to intervene in the matter.
Protester Alleges Intensive Security Checks
Even some of the protestors said that when they were entering the Jantar Mantar protest they had to face some strict security entering the protest.
This tight security briefed up after CJP has alleged that the police left the protest site after what happened on Monday violence at Jantar Mantar. Now some of the protestors said the police checked their bags and asked from where they are coming and their identity proofs as well.
Tear Gas Fired After Police Booth Damaged
The situation got worsen at around 2 PM when Police fired a tear gas when some of protestors tried to enter their security space and vandalize the police booth near Tolstoy Road entrance.
According to some witnesses, who were present there said that both the windows have been smashed, one of the protestors tried to damage CCTV camera installed at nearby pole. As the situation got out of control police fired another round of tear gas around 2.05 PM on Sansad Marg to force the crowd backwards.
Why Jantar Mantar Remains a Sensitive Protest Venue
Jantar Mantar has always been a platform for protestors all over India and especially for a month and half back this location has been in centre to media attention. The security at Jantar Mantar typically needs major security checkpoints to stop prohibited items.
However, neither from Police side anyone has confirmed any kind of detention or any injury to protestors or policemen. The details of this chaos is still awaiting.
