The 23rd Commonwealth Games are currently taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2. With over 3,000 athletes competing in 16 different sports, Team India has made a remarkable impression by securing 12 medals so far, which include two golds, seven silvers, and three bronzes.
Gold Medal Achievements
Mirabai Chanu has made headlines by winning India’s first gold medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting category. This victory marks her third consecutive gold at the Commonwealth Games, following her wins in 2018 and 2022, solidifying her status as one of India’s premier weightlifters.
Notable Silver Medal Wins
Rishikanta Singh from Manipur earned a silver medal in the men’s 60kg weightlifting category, lifting a total of 264 kg. His impressive snatch lift of 121 kg set a new Commonwealth Games record, while he also achieved 143 kg in the clean and jerk.
Young athlete Raja Muthupandi also contributed to India’s medal tally by winning a silver in weightlifting.
Gyaneshwari Yadav added another silver medal for India in the women’s 53kg weightlifting event, showcasing the team’s strong performance.
Bronze Medal Highlights
Bindyarani Devi secured a bronze medal in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event, lifting a total of 199 kg. This achievement marks her second medal at the Commonwealth Games, having previously won silver in the 55kg category at the 2022 Birmingham Games.
Jhandu Kumar made an inspiring mark by winning a bronze in men’s heavyweight para powerlifting with a lift of 190 kg, overcoming significant personal challenges along the way.
Historic Wins in Para Athletics
Sharmila Dhankar made history by clinching India’s second gold medal in the women’s shot put F57 event, achieving a season-best throw of 9.81m. This win is particularly significant as it marks India’s first para-athletics gold at the Commonwealth Games in two decades.
Sarvesh Anil Kushare from Maharashtra won a silver medal in the men’s high jump, clearing a height of 2.25m, while Valluri Ajaya Babu also secured a silver in the men’s 79kg weightlifting, lifting a total of 330 kg.
Dramatic Medal Wins
Shilpa K. Shaila’s bronze medal in the women’s shot put F57 event came after a dramatic turn of events, where she was initially out of medal contention but was awarded bronze following a disqualification of another athlete.
Harjinder Kaur added to India’s weightlifting success by winning a silver medal in the women’s 69kg category, lifting a total of 227 kg.

Gulveer Singh made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a medal in a long-distance race at the Commonwealth Games, securing silver in the men’s 10,000m final with an impressive final sprint.
