Shubman Gill breaks Sunil Gavaskar’s record in the India vs England second test

Indian skipper Shubman Gill has enlisted himself among new records, as the new Indian captain has shown some commanding form since his arrival in England. Gill already shocked everyone during the first innings of the India vs England second test with a terrific double-century.

He batted diligently for a record 269 runs scored in the first innings, which had already broken several records, and was followed by another 150+ score in the second innings.

Shubman Gill is just the second batter in the history of Test cricket with two 150+ scores in a single test, after the great Australian skipper Allan Border.

Gill broke Sunil Gavaskar’s 54-year-old record, as he smashed the most runs by an Indian batter in tests. He scored a record 430, surpassing Gavaskar’s highest 344 runs against the West Indies back in 1971.

Shubman Gill has the second-most runs in a single test

Shubman Gill scored a total of 430 runs in the India vs England second test at Edgbaston, which is the second-highest individual test aggregate score, only behind former Englishman Graham Gooch’s 456 against India in 1990.

Gill has now also joined the elite list of Indian batters Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar to have scored two hundreds as captain of the Indian team. Sunil Gavaskar scored 107 and 182* against the West Indies back in 1978, while Virat Kohli’s 115 and 141 came at Adelaide against Australia.

Shubman Gill is now the second Indian batter to have scored two hundreds across both innings of a test on English soil. He joins Rishabh Pant in the list, who achieved a similar feat in the last match at Headingley.
