New Delhi: Team India all-rounder Veda Krishnamurthy has announced her retirement from professional cricket. The 32-year-old Karnataka cricketer took to social media to announce her retirement and thanked every individual who walked along with her cricketing journey.

She posted an emotional message and wrote, “From a small-town girl with big dreams to wearing the India jersey with pride. Grateful for everything cricket gave me the lessons, the people, the memories. It’s time to say goodbye to playing, but not to the game. Always for India. Always for the team”.

Veda Krishnamurthy’s career

Veda was known for her explosive middle-order batting and was part of India’s 2017 World Cup squad. She played 124 international matches—including 48 WODIs and 76 WT20Is in her 11-year career. She has scored 829 runs in 50-over cricket at an average of 25.90 and 875 runs in T20Is at 18.61.

She made her debut against England at the age of 18 in June 2011 and made an immediate impact with a stunning 51. She played crucial roles in many memorable matches, most notably in the 2017 World Cup semi-final against Australia, where she smashed 70 runs off 45 balls and helped India to qualify for the final.

Krishnamurthy played her last match for the national team in the 2020 T20 World Cup final against Australia. Her career was marked by resilience and determination. She lost her mother and elder sister to COVID‑19 in 2021, which halted her progress in the game. Krishnamurthy tried to make a comeback in cricket through domestic and WPL, but she could not force her way back into Team India.
