The day of September 5 is the birth anniversary of great philosopher, teacher and second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was born on 5 September 1888 in the Madras Presidency (today Tamil Nadu). He was not only an excellent teacher, but also a deep -minded philosopher and writer. He taught in large institutions like Kolkata University and Oxford University and popularized Indian philosophy around the world. Dr. Radhakrishnan received India’s highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna in 1954 and in 1963 he was also given honorary membership of Britain’s Royal Order of Merit. The story is when he became the President of India in 1962. Some students sought permission from him to celebrate on his birthday. On this, he said that if I have to celebrate my birthday, then celebrate it as “Teachers’ Day. Since then, the tradition of celebrating Teachers’ Day started every year in India every year.
