Teachers day 2025: Every year 5 September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India. This day is dedicated to expressing gratitude to its guru, teachers and those who gave us their guidance in some form or the other. There have been many such great teachers and education reformers in the history of our country, who not only changed the way of teaching but also gave a new direction to the thinking and future of the society. Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan
Dr. Radhakrishnan, the second President of India and the great philosopher, believed that the real purpose of education is the development of independent thinking and good ideas. Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5 September in his honor. On September 5, he also has his birth anniversary, in fact, according to him, this day was celebrated as Teachers’ Day. He also became the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University and Andhra University. He was a major contribution in the education world. He also worked as President of Mental and Ethics at the University of Calcutta and Professor of Eastern religion and morality at the University of Oxford.
Savitribai Phule
India’s first female teacher Savitribai Phule started the first school for girls and backward classes in Bhidewada, Pune in 1848, which was a historic step at that time. She stood against discrimination on caste and gender and opposed the atrocities on widows. In his honor, Pune University has been renamed Savitribai Phule Pune University. Savitribai was also a good writer from Marathi.
Jyotirao Phule
Savitribai’s husband Jyotirao Phule played an important role in providing the right to education to Dalits and the disadvantaged society. He raised a new thinking by linking social reforms with education. In 1873, he founded the Satyashodhak Samaj, which aims to provide education and rights to women, Dalits and backward classes. Phule along with his wife opened the country’s first school in Pune for girls and taught his wife Savitribai Phule and made her the first female teacher in India.
Acharya Chanakya
Chanakya (Kautilya), the great scholar of ancient India, taught politics, economics and administration at Taxila University. Chanakya was the General Secretary and great political guru of Chandragupta Maurya. He is also known as Kautilya and Vishnugupta. He was a wonderful scholar of politics, diplomacy and economics. With his intellect and policies, he not only made Chandragupta Maurya the emperor, but also laid the foundation of unbroken India. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Kalam was the 11th elected President of India and the great scientist of the country. He worked in ISRO and DRDO for four decades and gave a new height to India’s space program and missile technology. That is why he is called “Missile Man of India”.
Rabindranath Tagore

Madan Mohan Malaviya
He founded the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). His dream was that every section of India should get cheap and good education, which has the balance of Indian culture and modern education. He was the first and last person in India to get the title of “Mahamana”. He dedicated his entire life to the country service with journalism, advocacy, social reform and promotion of mother tongue.
Swami Vivekananda

Gijubhai Badka

He established a school called Bal Mandir and adopted new methods of education for the correct development of children. He wrote several interesting stories for children, which were published in ten books in Gujarati and five books in Hindi.
Anand Kumar
Bihar teacher Anand Kumar started a super 30 program and took poor and promising children to big examinations like IIT. He proved that correct guidance and education can fulfill every dream. The world also appreciated the hard work and contribution of Anand Kumar. He was included in Time magazine’s top list in 2010. In 2023, he was also awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of education and literature.
