Teacher arrested for ‘marrying’ minor student in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old physics teacher was arrested for marrying a minor girl student from class 10 at a private school in January. He was arrested, produced before a court and sent to judicial custody, IT Pocharam police said.

On January 3, the girl’s mother noticed her unusual behaviour. The girl revealed that her teacher, P. Myteen, had married her on January 1. Her family filed a police complaint on January 4, and the case surfaced publicly on Monday.

Teacher booked under POCSO Act:

The police registered a case against him under sections 78 and section 11 of the BNS and the POCSO Act. After thorough investigation, they found no evidence of rape.

Survivor is being counselled for her mental and emotional wellbeing, officials said. The school management did not respond to requests to comment on the incident and the teacher’s role in the school.
