Tata Motors has hiked the price of the Punch EV by up to Rs 20,000 in India, making its most affordable electric car costlier in September 2026. The price increase varies depending on the battery pack, with the 30kWh variants getting a smaller hike and the larger 40kWh versions becoming Rs 20,000 more expensive. The Punch EV now starts at Rs 9.79 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

The entry-level Smart 30kWh variant now costs Rs 9.79 lakh, up from Rs 9.69 lakh, while the Smart+ 30kWh is priced at Rs 10.39 lakh. Both variants have received a Rs 10,000 increase.

The larger battery versions have seen the bigger revision. The Smart+ 40kWh now costs Rs 11.19 lakh, the Adventure 40kWh is priced at Rs 11.94 lakh, and the Empowered 40kWh costs Rs 12.69 lakh. The range-topping Empowered+ S 40kWh now costs Rs 12.99 lakh.

Punch EV battery and range

Punch EV continues to be offered with 30kWh and 40kWh battery packs. The 30kWh version produces around 87bhp and 154Nm, while the 40kWh version develops around 127bhp and 154Nm.

Tata claims a range of 355km for the 30kWh version and 468km for the 40kWh model. There have been no major mechanical changes associated with this latest price revision.

Why has the Punch EV become more expensive?

The latest revision comes after Tata Motors announced a broader price increase of up to Rs 25,000 across its passenger vehicle range from September 1, citing continuing cost pressures. The actual increase varies between models and variants.

Punch EV received its facelift earlier in 2026 and continues with features including a 10.25-inch infotainment display, 350-degree camera and 180mm ground clearance. It also recently received a five-star BNCAP safety rating.

With the latest hike, buyers looking for an affordable Tata electric car will now have to spend at least Rs 9.79 lakh ex-showroom for the Punch EV.
