New Delhi: Tata Power is pushing deeper into AI and data, and this time it is not just a pilot or small rollout. The company has announced a full enterprise-wide move to the Databricks platform, aiming to reshape how it handles data across operations. It signals a bigger shift in how traditional energy companies in India are thinking about digital systems.
Tata Power says it wants to improve everything from grid operations to customer experience using a single data system.
Tata Power bets on AI and unified data platform
The company plans to use Databricks to bring all its data into one place. Right now, many large firms still run on scattered systems, and this step aims to remove that gap. The platform is expected to support smarter grid management, better renewable energy forecasting, improved billing and collection systems, and faster decision making across departments. Tata Power is trying to build a system that can handle real time data and help teams act quickly when needed.
Genie AI agent to power “talk to data” system
One of the key parts here is something called Genie. It is an AI agent that lets employees ask questions and get answers directly from company data. Instead of going through dashboards or reports, staff can simply type a query and get insights.
The company explains that Genie will allow workers to “talk to their data and get trusted answers instantly.”
Tata Power’s CEO Dr Praveer Sinha linked this move to long-term goals. He said, “This partnership with Databricks marks a key milestone in our journey to build a future-ready, intelligent energy ecosystem.”
He added, “By leveraging the power of data and AI, we are strengthening our digital foundation to drive smarter operations.”
From the Databricks side, Nick Eayrs pointed to a larger industry shift. He said, “The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation, and data and AI is at the heart of that change.”
What this means for India’s energy sector
This move reflects a wider push where energy firms are trying to become more data driven. Tata Power plans to build a strong base for future AI tools, including analytics and automation systems. Over time, this could change how energy is distributed and managed across cities.
