Tata made a big blast! Now ChatGPT’s work will be run from India, deal worth billions made

Tata Group, one of India’s most trusted and giant companies, has now taken a huge leap in the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Actually, the data center business of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has got the biggest customer. This customer is none other than OpenAI, the company that is bringing the wave of AI across the world. Under this agreement, TCS will initially provide 100 MW capacity to OpenAI from its data center. This partnership is part of a larger global initiative called ‘Stargate’.

What is ‘Stargate’ project?

Stargate is not an ordinary project, rather it is a multi-year initiative worth 500 billion dollars i.e. billions of rupees. Its main objective is to build such modern data centers around the world, which can provide the huge computing power required to train and run Artificial Intelligence (inference). Big investors of the world are backing this project and now Tata Group has become an important soldier of this campaign.

Tata’s $7 billion masterplan

This deal is considered a big win for TCS. Last year the company made a major change in its strategy. They had announced that they will build 1 gigawatt capacity data center units in India, on which about $7 billion will be invested. The addition of a big name like OpenAI as the first customer in a business started under a new strategy proves that both Tata’s vision and timing are absolutely perfect.

India’s growing stature in AI infrastructure

Spending on AI infrastructure is increasing rapidly in India. Not only Tata, but foreign giant companies like Google, Amazon, Meta (Facebook) and Microsoft are also strengthening their roots in India. Apart from this, domestic companies like Reliance and Adani Group are also not lagging behind in this race. The objective of all these is to meet the digital needs of the future. OpenAI itself has said that now more than 10 crore people use ChatGPT every week in India. In such a situation, the presence of data centers here will improve the speed and quality of service.

ChatGPT will now resonate in Tata offices

Another aspect of this partnership is that Tata Group is not just providing services, but is also adopting technology itself. Under a separate agreement, the Tata Group parent company is going to implement ‘ChatGPT Enterprise’ across its various companies. This scheme will be completed in the next few years, which will be started with lakhs of employees. This means that the world’s most advanced AI tools will now be used in Tata’s work.
