Tata Kuno Electric SUV – Expected Price, Range & Key Details

Tata Motors plans several new models across segments while adopting a multi-powertrain strategy. The carmaker already has a strong presence in the EV (electric vehicle) market, with models such as the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Harrier EV and Sierra EV. Aiming to further strengthen its position, Tata Motors will introduce a compact electric SUV, codenamed Tata Kuno. The production-ready version will carry a new nameplate and rival the MG Windsor EV.

While the official launch timeline of the Kuno is yet to be announced, the compact EV is expected to arrive in 2027 or 2028. In Tata Motors’ product portfolio, the Kuno EV will sit between the Nexon EV and Sierra EV. The model will be manufactured at Tata’s Sanand facility.

Acti.ev Platform

The upcoming Tata Kuno EV will be built on the brand’s Acti.ev architecture, which is claimed to maximize cabin space and improve energy efficiency. It supports both ICE (internal combustion engine) and electric powertrains, allowing flexibility in battery pack sizes, vehicle sizes, drivetrain configurations and charging capabilities.

Tata’s Acti.ev platform-based EVs are claimed to offer a range of up to 600km. These models will also support 11kW of AC charging and DC fast charging of up to 150kW. The architecture accommodates front-wheel drive (FWD), rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.

Powertrain Sharing?

According to a fresh media report, the Tata Kuno could share its powertrain with either the Curvv EV or Sierra EV. The Curvv EV is currently available with a 55kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor, delivering a claimed range of 502km. The Tata Sierra EV comes with 65kWh RWD, 75kW RWD and 75kWh dual-motor AWD powertrain options, and offers a claimed range of up to 665km.

Expected Prices

Prices of the upcoming Tata Kuno compact EV are expected to overlap with Curvv EV and Sierra EV, which are currently priced between Rs 17.19 lakh – Rs 19.39 lakh and Rs 18.79 lakh – Rs 25.99 lakh, respectively. It’s arch rival, the MG Windsor EV is currently available at prices ranging from Rs 14.85 lakh to Rs 19.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
