Where did tandoori tea originate from?

Tandoori tea originated from Pune, Maharashtra. A man named Amol Dilip Rajdev had created it inspired by his grandmother. Actually, his grandmother used to heat turmeric milk in a kulhar on the bonfire. Just seeing this, the thought came to his mind that why not make tea in the same way. After this Dilip Rajdev has prepared Tandoori Chai and Chai La! Also opened a shop named ‘The Tandoor Tea’. Now this tea is very famous from Delhi to Lucknow and everyone likes it.

Ingredients

Milk – 1 cup

Water – ½ cup

Tea leaves – 1½ tsp

Sugar – as per taste

Ginger (crushed) – ½ tsp

Cardamom (ground) – 2

Earthen Ax – 1

Coal – 1 small piece

Ghee – ½ tsp

How to make tea without tandoor

  • First of all, keep the clay pot on direct gas flame. Heat it well from all sides, until it turns red. This step gives tandoori tea its original taste.
  • To make tea, add water, milk, ginger and cardamom in a pan and boil. Now add tea leaves in it and let it cook well for 23 minutes. Finally add sugar and filter the tea.
  • Burn a small piece of coal on the gas until it turns red. Now place this burning coal inside the hot Kulhar and add ½ teaspoon ghee on top. This will produce strong smoke, which will give a smoky flavour.
  • Immediately pour hot tea into the kulhar amidst the smoke. As soon as the tea is poured, it will boil and the smoky flavor will dissolve in the tea.
  • Your dhaba like tandoori tea is ready. If you want, you can also add some cream on top. It is very delicious in taste.

Keep these things in mind

The hotter the kulhar is, the better the tea will be.

Be careful while adding coal.

If you like smoke more, you can cover the kulhar for 10-15 seconds before pouring the tea.
