Tamil Nadu weather: Rain, thunderstorm to bring relief across state from scorching heat

New Delhi: The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu from May 14 onwards, offering possible relief from the intense summer heat for the residents. Officials noted that the moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in districts along the Western Ghats and coastal regions over the next few days.

According to the weather department, the change in weather conditions is due to atmospheric circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea, the south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and adjoining areas. As a result, scattered rainfall activity is expected to increase across the state.

Rain is expected in several parts of the state

Districts in the Western Ghats region, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Theni, are likely to witness moderate showers in the coming days. Rainfall is also expected at isolated places in coastal Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal.

In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with light rain likely in some areas over the next few days.

Meteorologists said that while temperatures continue to remain high in several districts, the intensity of the heat has reduced slightly due to intermittent rainfall and sudden changes in weather patterns.

Officials also noted that conditions are gradually becoming favourable for the onset of the southwest monsoon, which could bring increased rainfall activity to the southern parts of the country in the coming weeks.

During the last 24 hours, several regions of Tamil Nadu, especially hill districts and western parts of the state, recorded moderate rainfall, bringing relief to residents from the prevailing summer heat.
