Chengalpattu: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two unidentified persons near Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district late Monday night. Police have arrested one suspect and formed special teams to track down the second accused.
The victim, a Class 9 student from the Tambaram area, had gone to Chennai’s Marina Beach the day before yesterday with a 17-year-old boy from Madurantakam and a 16-year-old girl who was her friend. She informed her parents that she would stay overnight at her friend’s house. Around midnight, the boy took the two girls on his two-wheeler and headed towards Keezhakandi village near Madurantakam.

According to police, as they approached the Devathur area near Madurantakam, two unidentified persons on a motorcycle began following them. The boy attempted to speed away but lost control of the two-wheeler near the Athivakkam forest area, causing all three to fall. At that point, the two men chased the boy and the 16-year-old girl, who managed to flee on the motorcycle. They then dragged the 14-year-old girl to the Athivakkam lake area and gang-raped her before escaping.
Despite the trauma and injuries, the girl displayed incredible courage. She managed to walk through the night over 10 kms and reached the Paunjur Government Primary Health Center with the help of some people. From there, she was referred to the Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Medical staff, upon learning of the assault, alerted the Mel Maruvattur All Women Police.
One held after 14-year-old gang-raped near Madurantakam, Special teams search for second accused
Police have registered a case and launched an intensive investigation. One suspect, identified as ‘Kakka’ Balaji from Thiruverkadu, has been arrested. Sources indicate that Balaji has a prior criminal record and is involved in several cases registered at the Guduvanchery police station. Four special teams have been formed to track down the second accused. The victim is receiving medical treatment and psychological counselling at the hospital, and her condition is reported to be stable.
